Chandrodaya Temple

Chandrodaya Temple is a grand temple under construction in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh. Once completed, it will be the tallest religious monument in the world. The temple is being built by the followers of Srila Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON. This massive project will feature a beautiful temple of Lord Sri Krishna, blending traditional Indian temple architecture with modern design.

Foundation and Construction

The foundation stone of Chandrodaya Temple was laid by Pranab Mukherjee, the former President of India (2012-2017). The temple is currently being built and is expected to open to the public by 2027.

Features of Chandrodaya Temple

The temple complex will include:

Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir – the main temple dedicated to Lord Krishna.
Krishna Lila Park – a theme park showcasing Krishna’s divine pastimes.
Krishna Heritage Museum – displaying the cultural and spiritual heritage of Krishna.
Krishna Vaas and Krishna Kutir Retreats – offering peaceful accommodations for visitors.
Capsule Elevator – taking visitors on a journey through different planetary systems, ending at a viewing gallery with a breathtaking view of Braj Mandal.
Srila Prabhupada Museum and Expo – dedicated to the life and teachings of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

History of Chandrodaya Temple

The idea of the temple was inspired by Srila Prabhupada’s vision. He once spoke about how people build skyscrapers everywhere and suggested, “Why not build a skyscraper temple for Krishna?” His words led to the creation of this grand project, aimed at spreading the glories of Krishna and Vrindavan to the world.

Architecture and Design

The temple will have a blend of traditional Nagara-style architecture at the entrance with a modern glass façade reaching up to the 70th floor.
It will rise to a height of 210 meters (700 feet) with 75 floors, covering a massive area of 50,000 square meters (540,000 square feet).
The project is set on 260 hectares (642 acres) of land.
The foundation is three times deeper than the Burj Khalifa, making it strong enough to withstand an 8.0 magnitude earthquake.
The temple will stand on 511 pillars supporting a total weight of 5 lakh tonnes.
Surrounding the temple will be 12 forests, named after the 12 forests of Braj, creating a divine atmosphere similar to Lord Krishna’s time.
