About Nandgaon

Nandgaon is a beautiful village in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, India, known for its connection to Lord Krishna’s childhood. Although Lord Krishna was born in Mathura, he was taken to Gokul, where he was raised by his foster father, Nand Ji. Nand Ji, the leader of Gokul, and Vrishbhanu Ji, Radha’s father, were close friends.

Due to the atrocities caused by the evil king Kans, Nand Ji and the elders of Gokul decided it was no longer safe to stay in Gokul, especially as many demons were coming to harm the children. To protect everyone, they moved to a new place. Nand Ji chose Nandgaon and settled on Nandishvar Hill. Vrishbhanu Ji moved his family to Barsana and settled on Bhanugarh Hill.

Today, Nandgaon and Barsana are famous for their temples. In Nandgaon, the Nand Bhawan Temple stands on Nandishvar Hill, honoring Lord Krishna. In Barsana, the Radha Rani Temple on Bhanugarh Hill celebrates Radha. Both places are known for their connection to the divine love story of Radha and Krishna and are visited by many devotees, especially during festivals like Holi

Nandgaon Temple: Nand Bhavan

Nand Bhawan is the main temple in Nandgaon, located on Nandishvar Hill. It was built on the same spot where Nand Ji, the foster father of Lord Krishna, used to live. This temple is special because it has shrines dedicated to not only Lord Krishna and his brother Balram but also to their foster parents, Nand Ji and Yashoda Mata.

The temple is a beautiful building with three domes and covers a large area. To reach the entrance, visitors need to climb a set of stairs. Inside, the ceilings are decorated with paintings showing the pastimes of Lord Krishna.

Nand Bhawan was built in the 19th century by Raja Rupa Singh . It stands as a reminder of the rich history and culture of Nandgaon, where Lord Krishna spent his childhood.
