About Imlitala Temple
ImliTala Temple, located on Parikrama Marg in Vrindavan, is a place of deep spiritual significance, representing the intense love and separation between Radha and Krishna. The name “Imli” means tamarind tree, and “Tala” refers to the base of the tree. This is where, during the Sharad Purnima rasa dance, Shrimati Radharani left, causing Krishna to feel intense sadness as He searched for her.
Historically, Imli Tala was close to the banks of the Yamuna River. However, over time, the Yamuna has changed its course, and the river now flows further away from this site. Even though the landscape has shifted, the sacredness of Imli Tala remains strong, attracting many devotees.
Around 500 years ago, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu visited Vrindavan and frequently came to Imli Tala. He would spend hours under the tamarind tree, chanting the holy names with his japa-mala and becoming completely absorbed in devotion.
Imli Tala also holds an important place in ISKCON’s history. Shrila Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON, often visited this sacred spot.
Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, and his disciples purchased the land at Imli Tala and built a beautiful Gaudiya Matha (temple). Today, the area is surrounded by a yellow wall, and the tamarind tree can still be seen through the gates.
Unlike the more crowded temples of Vrindavan, Imli Tala offers a peaceful sanctuary where devotees can meditate and feel a connection to the divine. The tamarind tree, central to the temple’s history, provides shade and an aura of calm. Visitors often sit beneath the tree to chant and reflect, making it a perfect place for spiritual seekers.

The Divine Story of Imli Tala
The legend of Imli Tala tells one of the most emotional moments in Radha and Krishna’s divine pastimes. During the Sharad Purnima rasa dance, Shrimati Radharani suddenly disappeared, leaving Krishna heartbroken and searching for her. His deep feelings of separation only made their love grow stronger.
In his sorrow, Krishna sat under the tamarind tree at Imli Tala, thinking so intensely of Radharani that His body turned golden, matching her complexion. At that moment, Radharani reappeared, ending their separation. Krishna then returned to his usual form and told her, “In my intense ecstasy of separation, I took on your form and color.”
Today, Imli Tala Temple is a place where devotees come to reflect on this divine love and separation, seeking to connect with the devotion that Radha and Krishna shared.

By Road: You can easily hire a cab from Agra, Mathura, or Delhi to travel to the Imlitala Temple. It is approx. 157 km from Delhi, 80 kms from Agra, and 12 kms from Mathura.
By Train: The city is well-connected with almost all cities across the country. The nearest railway station is in Mathura, located 13 kms away.
By Air: The nearest fully functional commercial airport is the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, 150 km away.
