Brahmand Ghat History

Once, while little Krishna was playing with His friends, including His brother Balarama, the other boys went to Mother Yashoda with a complaint. “Mother,” they said, “Krishna has eaten dirt!”

Mother Yashoda, always worried about Krishna’s well-being, immediately picked Him up and asked with concern, “Krishna, why have You eaten earth?” Her eyes were filled with worry as she scolded Him gently. Mother Yashoda was upset by Krishna’s mischievous behavior. She wondered why He would eat dirt when there were so many delicious sweets at home.

Krishna, however, smiled innocently and said, “Mother, they are just trying to get me into trouble. I did not eat any dirt. My brother Balarama and all my friends are lying. Believe me, I am telling the truth.”

But Mother Yashoda was not convinced. “If you have not eaten dirt,” she challenged, “then open your mouth so I can see.”

Krishna, being playful and wanting to show his mother something incredible, opened His mouth wide. What Yashoda saw inside was beyond belief—inside Krishna’s mouth, she saw the entire universe: the stars, the planets, the oceans, and even herself, looking back into His mouth. For a moment, she was stunned and began to wonder if she was dreaming or if it was some kind of magic.

However, if Mother Yashoda truly understood that Krishna was the Lord of the Universe, she would never have been able to treat Him with the same motherly love. So, the divine power of Yogmaya, Krishna’s internal energy, made her forget His divinity, allowing her to continue to shower Him with the deep love of a mother.

And so, at Brahmand Ghat, a place by the Yamuna River, this divine play reminds every one of the deep love between Lord Krishna and His Mother.
